Stress is everywhere these days. Thankfully, there are many ways for us to combat the effects of chronic stress on our bodies.
Stress is everywhere, and it’s a silent killer. There are many ways to combat the negative effects of stress on our lives and our health, and meditation is one of them. Find out from this handout what stress is doing to your body, how meditation can help, and how to do a very quick and easy meditation and breathing exercise.
I think most of us realise the importance of exercise and movement, but there are so many ways that we can incorporate these into our daily lives. In fact you don’t even need a gym membership to be active.
This leaflet provides information on some of the benefits of walking.
Most of us know that exercise is important, but what benefits does it really offer? Are they limited to better heart health? Can exercise and movement benefit us in lots of other, different ways? This handout helps to explain why it’s important to exercise in the Goldilocks zone (not too little, but not too much).
Yoga is a restorative exercise, and great for enhancing flexibility. It is very important to include movement in your life, and exercising or moving with purpose in company can really help as well. This handout explains the benefits of including some movement like yoga in your life.
What if something as simple as spending time in nature could help to improve your mental health, productivity, creativity and contentment? What if it could also help to improve your physical health, strength, co-ordination and mood? Studies reveal that all this and more are benefits of spending time in nature. Who’d have thought that something so simple could be the key to helping to unlock your vitality, while also helping you to feel more interconnected? Our ancestors knew this, but many of us have forgotten the importance of getting outdoors to support our vitality.
This is a short booklet to help you understand the role that spending time in nature has in your healing journey. You’ll find information on many of the benefits, and some suggestions about different ways you can spend more time in nature. After you’ve read it complete the workbook, “The Power Of Nature Fun Sheet”.
This workbook accompanies “The Power Of Nature” eBook. Read that booklet and then complete this workbook.
Sleep is one of the cornerstones of good health. We know that everyone needs to sleep. But did you know that you’ll survive longer on no food than you will on no sleep? We spend less time sleeping these days than our ancestors did a century ago. And there are real costs in terms of your mental, physical and emotional health of being sleep deprived.
Am I starting to sound like your mum? If she told you that you need a good night’s sleep, she knew what she was talking about. This leaflet provides you with the rationale of getting a proper night’s sleep.
Do you ever dismiss self-care, or put it off because you just don’t have the time for it right now? Do you have too many other things on the go, between work, family life, exercise, running your household, caring for other people and whatever other demands are made on your time? Do you feel guilty any time you prioritise just a little bit of time looking after yourself?
But listen to me when I say this: if you want to be able to function at a high level, then just a little bit of time spent regularly on self-care can make a real difference.
Did you know that there are benefits of reading fiction? It may be hard to believe, but you can find out what those are from this short handout,
When I asked a few people who identified as suffering from gadolinium toxicity symptoms, massage was one of the things that they said gave them the most relief of symptoms, and that they found most helpful, as well as being extremely pleasurable. Find out more about massage, its benefits and risks, and some alternatives to it in this handout.
It might not even be a case of feeling overtly lonely. But perhaps we all need to be a bit more mindful about the relationships we have with those people who are most important to us. So this section tries to include ways to nurture your personal relationships.
Social media and technology make it so easy to interact with people from all over the world. We can text friends and family, and make new relationships. So why is it that people appear to be lonelier than at possibly any other time in our histories? What affect can loneliness have on your health? And what can we do about it?
Structured play has been shown in research to have benefits, not just for kids but also for their caregivers. Find out more here.
All of us are exposed to toxins in our environments, medications, skincare and foods. Not only that, but we each produce a range of toxins inside our bodies. And of course there’s gadolinium and other toxic elements that we can be exposed to.
Which makes it ever more important to focus on supporting the body to try to eliminate as many toxins as we can.
Dry skin brushing is very popular and has a very long history of use in different cultures. Similar to massage, dry skin brushing has elements of both self-care and the support of detoxification. It certainly helps your skin feel soft and smooth. Find out more about dry skin brushing from this handout.
Soaking in Epsom salts using a bath or foot spa can be one of the most indulgent ways to improve your health. Not only is it a great way to luxuriate in some self-care, but it’s also a great way to top up your magnesium levels and support your detoxification pathways, all while relaxing. And if you’ve had a particularly arduous workout and your muscles are aching, an Epsom salts bath is one of the best ways to relieve some of the pain. Epsom salts can also help to relieve the itch from insect bites.
